cam5.jpgFlipside 2008 will open on Wednesday 21st May 2008, with a gallery private view and preview screening of ‘Tempus Cinema’ - a collection of film work-in-progress which explores ‘time’ as its central theme.

Created by year two BA (Hons) Film Arts students from Plymouth College of Art, Tempus Cinema is more than just another gallery show, as Tempus spokesperson Sam Gardner explains: ‘Tempus Cinema unites a varied and exciting range of new film work-in-progress under one banner, providing both film-makers and viewers with the opportunity to engage with ‘cinematic time’ as a metamorphic and often illusory concept. As emerging film artists it provides us with a unique platform for our undergraduate work-in-progress and encourages us to think beyond the traditional outlets and venues for film exhibition.’

The world of Tempus Cinema opens its doors to you at 6pm on Wednesday 21st May 2008 with a gallery private view and preview screening at Plymouth College of Art. The gallery exhibition and film screenings will continue in Plymouth College of Art’s Viewpoint Gallery until Tuesday 27th May. Admission is free of charge, although donations to the charity ‘Bristol Computers for Palestine’ will be welcomed.

On Monday 26th May 2008, Café Concrete will host the ‘4:3 ReView’ event as part of the Flipside Film Festival! This very special event will present bespoke film works created by utilising ‘endangered technologies & techniques’ in response to selected Café Concrete sound works. The evening will also feature live performances from Jonny3snareS and Gecko Hooks, plus a DJ set by Koombe.

Café Concrete is an intimate night of ambient experimental electronica, sound-art, film and music from the outer limits. It happens every last Monday of every month, upstairs at the Voodoo Lounge, Plymouth. It costs a mere two pounds and starts at 8.30pm.

The Flipside Film Festival will showcase both feature-length and short films in its curated and ‘open call’ film programmes and is intended as a filmic celebration and exploration of alternate, unorthodox and under-represented views and experiences of our world.
