The Flipside Film Festival will showcase both feature-length and short films in its curated and ‘open call’ film programmes and is intended as a filmic celebration and exploration of alternate, unorthodox and under-represented views and experiences of our world.
The Festival Opens on Wednesday 21st May 2008 with a gallery private-view and cinema preview screening of a programme of films made by emerging film artists. The programme is entitled ‘Tempus’ and all films featured in this programme explore the theme of time in wonderfully imaginative and diverse ways!
The curated programme of the festival will open on Thursday 22nd May 2008 with a retrospective of stunning film works by internationally respected artist filmmaker Tony Hill and will conclude on Saturday 31st may with the double-feature screening of ‘Dancehall Queen’ and ‘Westway to The World’ by that unique Filmmaker, DJ and legendary cultural alchemist, Don Letts! Both of the aforementioned film artists will be in attendance to introduce and discuss their works.

You can also enter your films to Flipside 2008 by responding to our Open Call for film submissions (closes Friday May 15th 2008). Open Call film entries can be of any genre or film-making style, although should explore / embrace one or more of the following thematic areas:
![]()
Films which provide the viewer with the opportunity to literally ’see’ our world from different and unfamiliar visual perspectives, achieved by manipulating ‘the real’ with various alchemic cinematic techniques & technological trickery!
![]()
Films which celebrate non-mainstream / non-traditional and minority viewpoints and experiences of our world (especially political / spiritual / ideological viewpoints and experiences that are under-represented by mainstream broadcast media): A thematic celebration of the diversity of experience in our world and a challenge to the institutional shortcomings of ‘broad’ cast media.
![]()
Films which creatively embrace ‘endangered’ media practices, processes and technologies, featuring everything in the 4:3 aspect ratio, from Super8, Standard 8, & Standard 16mm film, to analogue video. This is the thematic antidote to HDTV, where the focus is the celebration and exploration of the gloriously rarefied, rather than the aggressive product-profit driven ‘technical redundancy & replacement’ industry model!
Follow the ‘Open Call’ link in the left-hand sidebar for full details of how to enter your film for Flipside 2008!
